Replacement speaker for my AVT-50

I'm thinking of replacing the crapo (Celestion Rocket 50) speaker in my AVT-50.

I'd go for a used V30, a Hellatone 60 or maybe one of the new Eminence.

What would be the best Patriot or Red Coat speaker for a 1X12 combo? This amp is used mainly for Classic Rock and Hard rock at room/small gig or practice level. These amps used to be overpriced but they offer a great bang for the buck at the price they now sell on eBay. For moderate level 70s rock Marshall tone, they're hard to beat (and I must have bouhgt every amp on the store floor in the last 2 years).

It tends to have shrill highs, so I'd prefer a speaker that's smooth on the highs. I saw great reviews on the Governor, Wizard, Private Jack and Texas Heat.

Which of these would be the best in my combo?

Thanks in advance!

With all those strange amps that you have bought...why did you not save just alittle longer and gotten something you could keep?;)
Maybe a G12H30 watts?
That is one nice speaker.

Don't make fun of me, or I'll send a bunch of angry Muslim at you :laugh2:

Honestly, that's what I'll do. I decided I'll buy another YCV40 down the road, and I'll keep the speaker I'll buy now for the new amp (that will prevent me from buying the expensive YCV40 with a V30). So a G12H30 will not work with a YCV40 (40 watter). I'd prefer something that I can keep (I'll sell the Marshall with the stock speaker when I have the money for the YCV40.)

So I can't go much lower than 60 watt for the speaker. And 8 ohms.

I'm now leaning towards a Hellatone 60 right now, which is an aged Vintage 30 and will work great with a Traynor amp.

I like V30 for heavier stuff... but dunno how it sounds in a open back combo...

wizard, definately

THE 70's rock speaker and it'll sound great in an open back cab aswell as a closed back

and yes it can handle hard rock too, but they're naturally pretty crunchy so you'll find you won't need as much gain to get a good distorted tone

Thanks guys... by the way, the AVT-50 is a closed back combo.

Re: Replacement speaker for my AVT-50

And the nice thing about it is that you could make it openback. :)

that's usually what I do so I can turn the volume up a bit more.

+1 for the wizard. i have it in my flextoneII combo, and it's a darker sounding speaker, which should work well to tame the highs a little in your amp. for a single speaker it definitely gets a very full sound all across the spectrum.
