Hi all,
I'm looking for suggestions for replacement pickups for 2 Dinkys I have. Both are fairly new so they're alder bodies with maple caps and bolt-on maple necks. One has an unfinished maple fretboard and the other is rosewood.
These come stock with JBs. I have the typical complaints about the JBs so I'm looking for something with smoother highs, more output, and a bit more chunk in the trunk. (BTW I'm not a JB hater; I have other guitars these will be more appropriate for.)
I have a pretty good idea of which pickup I want but I thought I'd include that last to avoid bias.
In other guitars my favorites are (in no particular order) Nazguls, PATB2s, Distortions, and Pegasus (I also love my new AHB-3s but they are such a completely different animal they don't really count here). The first three have fairly sizzling highs so I'd like something a little smoother but still having some bite for variety.
These guitars will be shredders used mainly for studio lead work so articulation is important. My sound is modern metal/thrash. A secondary use will be for less metal-oriented punk and rock projects.
Bonus points for models that come in zebra.
My immediate thought is the Alt 8. The fact that the Alt 8's don't have ceramic magnets should bring a bit of extra contrast with leads to most of the rhythm parts I do which are usually with ceramic or active pickups. One bonus for these is from what I've read on the forum they can be balanced well with the '59s already in my Dinkys with a little work.
Thanks gurus!
