i hv a dimarzio air classic bridge pickup,n the leads are short
(i got it used on a local forum)
so how can i replace the short leads with new ones?

the pickup is a 4 conductor pickup,
how can i change it to a 2 conductor pickup?

Re: Replacing pickup leads

Its not a job for everyone , your best bet would be to extend on to the short wires
Replacing the 4 conductor wire will involve disassembling the whole pickup .removing the outer tape around the pickup to expose the pickup lead wires ,removing the 4 small screws on the bottom of the base plate ,then disconnecting the small lead wires from the 4-conductor wire & connecting them to the new wire (this could be tricky for a newbie or even experienced sometimes) & replacing the bare wire on the base plate

Re: Replacing pickup leads

but can u use different type of wires to replace the leads of the pickup (guitar internal wiring wire)?

or must i use the same wires like the ones on Stewmac?

Re: Replacing pickup leads

the single conductor braid wire or 4- conductor is normally used
carefully take notice where wires are positioned & crammed out of the way you will need to do this at the end after the wire replacement is done
To convert to single conductor. you need to solder you finish end wires together , i do believe they are the white & black wire from you present 4-conductor wire . Then solder the south start wire which is the wire connected to your green wire to your base plate
You will need to solder the braided part of the wire to the base plate .
Then you can solder the north start wire to the inner wire of your braided wire
this is your hot . If your not worried about aesthetics i would just extend your wires
But you can use any to small wires .But if you ever want to sell it i doubt you will get much for it with signs of tampering with it & not correct wire used

The more important question would be..."Why would you want to?".

Why risk destroying the pickup when you can achieve the same result by just connecting a couple of the existing wires together and grounding the rest (except for the lead, obviously)?

I was going to ask the same thing.

You can simply extend the hot and ground wires. As for converting it to 2 conductor, you don't need to do that, just solder and wrap the 2 leads which connect the two coils together with some masking tape.

How's it going, Nik? :)
