Hey Everyone,

I recently bought a 1950s Gibson BR-9 Lap Steel. It has everything except the original pickup. Does anyone know what pickup would be the ideal replacement, considering the necessary string spacing and pickup size?

Thanks!

six string right? measure the string spacing at the bridge. ive seen them with a p90 style pup under the cover (maybe with studs rather than screws) but dont know the spacing

Measure the pickup cavity, end to end AND the distance between the screw holes at either end of the cavity.

Compare your measurements against the dimensions of a Dogear P-90. :)

Mine are 2-7/16" string spacing. Seymour doesn't show pole spacing on the Fender lap steel pickup. The image I found of yours online shows the palmrest molded with the pickgaurd, and the pickup looks like my Kalamazoo except mine has 2 blades and yours 6 poles. IMO these instruments are too bright. I routed one of mine and put a humbucker in the neck position.

Thanks for all the advice! I just received the body in the mail today. I am going to see if a regular soap bar P90 will do the trick.

I would go with a P90. Considering the string spacing as Jeremy said. Worse case is itmay have to be custom made. Hmmmmm. Where can you get a pickup made?
