Residue on brand new SSL-1

Hi. I had an SSL-1 arrive in the mail and I noticed what appears to be some residue of some sort on it. Is this normal? I tried wiping it off with a slightly damp paper towel and a tad of dish soap and it didn't work. Is there some effective way to clean it off? If not, would this effect tone at all?

All those vintage style single coil bobbins are lacquer dipped, like vintage singles were back in the day at Fender. Extra lacquer on the pole piece does not affect the sound. You can probably chip it off with a guitar pick if you like or just wait it out. Enough pick scrapes, and it will likely eventually flake off.

If you REALLY want it off and clean then dip a q-tip in acetone and swirl it off. Just don't touch anything else with the acetone.

Yeah, it's completely normal & harmless... Personally I'd just leave it, once you put a cover on it & stick it into the guitar the only way anyone will notice is if they're looking for it. Some people even pay extra to have that kind of patina on their pickups!!!!

It won't negatively affect anything...unless you are excessively OCD.
