I bet it would. With a reso 90% of the tone comes from the cone(s).

A Quarterman cone is a popular upgrade for cheap resos.

Does anyone know how a cone up-grade might have changed the tone of my Rogue Reso i had ?
I was pretty happy with the tone at the time (not overwhelmed, but content), as i never AB'ed it against something more expensive, say a 3K National or simmilar.

In my experience the nice cones are louder, sustain better, and sound more balanced. Cheap cones have a "plinky" tone.

Son was the man...I've been workin on Death Letter Blues...the notes are easy and there are not many of them but the vibe...the feel is another thing all together!

What company that still produce the resonator?
I've seen a resonator with Fender F-hole logo in catalog long time ago,but I'm not sure if Fender really produce it.
Oh and I've been wondering,is it given that we should play this kinda guitar with slide and open tunings?

Right now all I have is a cheap tricone, but I'll have a nice National Duolian one day. It's on my list.

I've owned two Johnson resonators, and think they're a cut above the rest in their price range. Most Johnson acoustics aren't that good, but their resonators are supposedly made by someone else. They're basically replicas of classics. The necks are nice and chunky and the bell brass bodies are well made.

I'm looking for a way to amplify my National that is non-invasive and reversible. I'm thinking about ordering one of these pickups for it from National. It's held on by double stick tape.

I don't know much about lower end reso's aside from the fact that I haven't really played one that I liked.

Beard also makes killer guitars. I have only played them a few times, but they are beautiful instruments; probably the only spider coned reso's that I thought sounded exceptional. This is not to be confused with the import Paul Beard guitars, which I have not tried.

Yeah...low buck acoustic instruments of all kinds often don't cut it however a 1930's Duolian is out of reach price wise...

Yeah, I hear that. I was very lucky to have access to such a great guitar. Beard and new National Resophonic guitars aren't cheap either.

Yeah, the new Nationals are high...as high in many cases and sometimes higher than a players grade vintage National?!

That's always the hardest part for me with transcriptions. Notes are notes, there's only 12 of them, but trying to do a... i dunno, miles davis solo and get the feel right... that takes weeks, maybe months
