I picked up a second hand Epiphone Les Paul Standard today.

I know a good luthier who does a decent re-spray, what colour do you think I should re-spray it in and whats your view on honey burst?

Thanks :D

If you want honey burst, why didnt you just buy a honey burst? Honestly, I'd just go for a GOOD heritage cherry sunburst like you'd see from a 58 or 59 Les Paul. Those Epi's cherry sunbursts look NOTHING like those in comparions..... completely different

the only color i would go through the hassle of stripping and refinishing a set neck guitar for would be to make it a gold top.

yeah, my EPI is almost bright read vs the brown of a real LP

Yeah you just gotta find the right ones. Mine has a nice dark reddish brown tint, but 99% of them are bright right and look crappy IMO. I've only seen a few others with the right tint to be a cherry sunburst..... too bad my camera can rarely ever catch a dark red tint on mine :(

Re: Respray Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Do not do a transparent color. Epiphones, like most imports, have a thick finish, covering up thin veneers. By the time to strip that thick finish off, the veneer may come off with it.

Solid colors no problem, as you can get away spraying over the existing finish

I would definately look into doing a sparkle finish. Take a look at some of Dipinto's axes for inspiration.

Yeah I've noticed theres ALOT of different in the honey burst. I've seen some that you'd put money on it was a cherry sb, and other that look almost like normal amber color like on the older quilt-top classics.
