Resting forearm on the guitar

Everytime after a few minutes my forearm starts to stick to the body of the guitar and i cant get any movement, meaning i cant reach the higher strings. I dont have this issue when wearing long sleeves. Has anyone had this issue and fixed it? Or the arm doesnt have to touch the guitar? I tried that and the guitar moves.

Re: Resting forearm on the guitar

I use a clamp on armrest on my Mandolin to keep my forearm from choking the top. Maybe something like that would help. Also, I’ve seen people wear sweatbands around their forearms for this.

Thanks ill try that. So jealous of people that dont have that problem lol :)

Re: Resting forearm on the guitar

You could also steel wool the glossy finish off the area. I do that to all my necks for that reason. Most of mine are bare wood and oiled.

Yeah that will work! I forgot once i was playing my teachers strat and it had a satin finish, my arm was moving freely. I rather do that, than use an antiperspirant on my hands and arms. It has bad side effects. Or just use a natural way.

I have steel wool, but theres different kinds? No? I hope i dont damage the guitar.

Not to mention the spray would probably eventually eat the gloss and the paint. lol

The green side of a Scotch-Brite pad is what I use for glossy necks.
Just go fast with super-soft pressure for that silky satin feel.

I always wear a long-sleeve shirt made of 800-grit sandpaper. That way I’m ready to put a satin finish on any guitar I pick up.

NEVER use steel wool on a guitar, especially an electric one. Use Scotchbrite - it's non-magnetic, doesn't shed crumbs that get in electronics or hurt your fingers.

Yeah, one of the reasons I love satin finishes. If I am not using a satin finished guitar, I use a sweatband on my forearm. Florida gets sticky when playing outside.

Its sucks right? we have to buy a guitar with satin finish or do it our selfs. Use sweat bands, long sleeves etc..

Im going to try to remove the finish with that Scotchbrite instead of the steel wool, i dont want those things flying all over the place.
