Retrofitting a Tele pickup in a humbucker slot

Is there a way I can get a Tele pickup in a humbucker route. It is on a direct-mount strat style guitar. I know there are the single coil pickup covers that fit into humbuckers but are there Tele ones?

Thanks, Andrew

Bridge or neck position?

Re: Retrofitting a Tele pickup in a humbucker slot

If you had pickup rings you could just cut some pickgard to the shape of your pickup.

Option #1 - Hope that a modern, single coil PU bridge will conceal the edges of the HB cavity.
Option #2 - Steal an idea from Francis Rossi of Status Quo.

Before Rossi's numero uno green T got a G&L ASAT type bridge, it had the remains of two regular Tele bridges fixed into it. The half with the saddles went into the usual screw holes. The half that supports the pickup was screwed on seperately. Again, you would have to hope that the edges of the HB cavity will be hidden. (Unlikely.)

You can try one of these:

If you want a Tele bridge pickup fit into a humbucker cavity, you'll have to route a little bit. Plus, you'll have the two humbucker mounting screw cavities sticking out from underneath the bridge.

Re: Retrofitting a Tele pickup in a humbucker slot

You could go for a Strat adapter ring and a Twangbanger (a T style pickup in a an S style form factor)

Re: Retrofitting a Tele pickup in a humbucker slot

As said, some routing required.

You could try shaving off some of the pickup baseplate or use a Strat pickup with a baseplate.

Re: Retrofitting a Tele pickup in a humbucker slot

you can always get one of these, widen it for a tele bridge pickup, and drill some new holes for mounting screws, then you can just put some screws with a nut on the end into the strat pup mounting holes.

. . . . . . ^^^^ i would go with this option myseld !

My brother had the very same idea as the OP, but he wanted to fit a Tele bridge pu to an entry level Ibanez RG321.

Never did it and sold the guitar.
