Revamped pedalboard! Whoo-hoo!

I just finished it up tonight. Changes since the last version:

  1. Replaced Boss Tremolo with CS-3 Compressor.
  2. Replaced GE-7 with Keeley Ultra-Mod DS-1.
  3. Added nameplate and indicator lights to PLAY/TUNE switch.

I'd like to thank three forum bros for their involvement: McLaughysSN for trading me his Keeley, Krall and CapoFirstFret for purchasing my old pedals (and thereby financing the upgrades). The Trading Post is a much more pleasant place to deal than eBay. Forum bro's rock.

...and speaking of rock, I'm ready to rock St. Andrew's this Sunday, provided I can learn all the songs tomorrow.

i've never understood what does a compressor do overall ? i know it "compresses" the sound but what i hear in effect are just less highs

In my case, it's there on a trial basis to do that 80's "jangle" thing. Think Andy Summers, Johnny Marr, or James Honeyman Scott and/or Robbie McIntosh from the Pretenders. Roger McGuinn from the Byrds is another good example.

I've never got on well with compressors, but this time I'm going to give it a chance and see if I can make it work. I'll set it up to reduce the overall signal level from what it would be with the guitar flat-out. A cleaner sound, but with lots of ringing sustain.

Other people use it to add sustain and boost the signal for solos. Jeff Baxter's solos with Steely Dan are a good example.

Glad I could help a bit financially to revamp your pedalboard..It's very nice and clean looking! Good job!!

A compressor is designed to even out the level of a signal. It's like a little guy standing next to your amp's volume control. When you play hard/loud the little guy turns the volume down, when you play quietly the little guy turns the volume up. It can be really helpful for funk strumming (to even out the sound a bit) or if you're playing a chord progression and then some single notes it can keep them all at the same level.

How are the Short Timers working out for you? I know they don't have a very long delay time (as the name implies), but I've just heard some mixed reviews. Users either love them of hate them.

Re: Revamped pedalboard! Whoo-hoo!

They go to 400 msec, which is plenty for me. I like them better than the Boss DD's I used years ago. The Boss' were too bright, whereas the Short Timers have a more analog sound, even though they are digital. The build quality is decent. Probably the weakest link is the pots - they're kinda cheesy. However, they are well protected on my pedalboard, so I expect they will last a while.

The best part is, I spent $57 bucks on both of them, used on eBay.

Nice. I love how clean your board is. Do you run the delay in the loop?

(Is one delay for slapback and the other for longer delays? I could see having even three on a board, I love delay... )

Man, I was hoping that keeley would go to a good home and she's in a mansion..
Loving the board man and loving the dyna comp too :bigok:
