Reverb help needed

Hey all,

Haven't posted in a while, graduate school has been crazy. Since my last post I have upgraded my rig significantly and am pretty happy with what I have got, except my reverb.

I am chasing that VH tone, and my Boss RV-3 isn't cutting it. I need something with a more lush plate setting, a spring setting, and some other goodies. I have about $120 to spend and wanted some opinions. Right now, I can snag a DigiTech RV-7 on Amazon for 117. There is also the Verbzilla from Line 6 for a bit more, and the DigiTech Digiverb for a bit less. Can anyone comment on these reverbs, both in general terms and potentially on capturing that VH sound.

It would help to know what exactly your upgraded rig includes. Only then would it be possible to form any worthwhile idea of what reverb processors might suit.

Also, in what size venues do you normally perform? In major concert venues, the natural ambience of the hall can render additional synthetic reverberation redundant.

Just get the Verbzilla. Everything you want and more. EXTREMELY highly regarded.

I am a Holy Grail fan myself. VZ is what you want for VH.

A search on Verbzilla will turn up overwhelming love and regard.

screw the verbzilla, EH Cathedral all the way

you'll never buy another reverb... or probably delay (the pre-delay and feedback functions basically turn every mode into delay + reverb)

It's like your RV-3 but way more tweakable and with the ability to save presets


I got mine used for $160. Not too much more than you were looking to spend

Sorry for the late reply, been really busy. Unfortunately I am not gigging (although I really need to be) and it would have been for home use.

I found a great deal on the Hardwire Reverb, and went with it, got it for about US$117. I would have liked the pre-delay stuff, but I can use the delay pedal to help me out with that. I have to say this thing is great. Really warm pedal, and every setting is usable (even the reverse).

It nails that VH plate tone (to my ears) and the other settings are to die for. The modulation setting on this pedal is a little lacking compared to say the Boss RV-5, but hell, if thats the only thing lacking on this pedal, I would say its a winner.

I can't comment on the Lexicon verbs though -- I haven't heard an old unit, and don't expect these algorithms in the pedal to match that older equipment!
