Lets assume your 'only amp' does not have onboard reverb . . .

. . . what pedal would you prefer to have ?

* Reverb

. . . or . . .

* Chorus

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Hmmm, neither..... :scratchch

For playing with a band I find a delay pedal set to a tasteful ambient setting works better than reverb. It adds depth while maintaining clarity.

Not a fan of chorus at all - gimme a phaser instead!

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Chorus is one of those things that's very temperamental to me. More often than not, I use a delay with some sort of modulation.
Between the 2, I prefer a light reverb.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Reverb . . . if only because I ALWAYS find myself turning up the reverb when it's practice time. The guitar just sounds lonely all on it's own without some 'verb.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Like Simon Says...delay > reverb.

I prefer phasers, but I love chorus too...though I am very very particular about what chorus..most of them are too wet, and too toppy.. Crappy 80s buttmetal or New Wave chorus ..no thanks. Lifeson, Summers, Moore, yes please.

So I voted chorus here.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Reverb for me. I don't have any other effects really. OK, I have a delay/echo pedal but I don't use it much.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

reverb but not from a pedal. its either built into the amp or I have a fender stand alone

Re: Reverb or Chorus

ugh, I hate chorus. I think I have an aversion to 80's guitar and the modulation effects that were sprayed all over them.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

I agree, I prefer Delay and Phaser to Reverb and Chorus, but I think it's because reverb and chorus are so easily overused and abused! When used tastefully, they can (reverb particularly) be unbelievable. I finally have a decent digital reverb (have always had amp spring verb) and its a lot of fun to create ambient soundscapes with.

However, in a live rock setting, delay is much more usable.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

If having to choose either one or the other and couldn't have both, I'd be very hard pressed to decide. I use them both. Reverb is my main effect (I don't really consider a compressor an effect), but I also love a splash of chorus now and then. It has to be the right verb and the right chorus. For reverb, I use either the Dr Scientist Mini Reverberator, or the Earthquaker Devices Ghost Echo. For chorus I use either an old Boss DC-2 Dimension C if I'm running stereo, or an Earthquaker Devices Sea Machine if I'n doing mono. All of these are very much mrpinter approved.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Reverb. I used to use chorus a lot, until I discovered a phaser and modulated delay. I can do a gig without phase, delay, chorus and wah. But I will be a sad panda without reverb.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

I use all my effects sparingly but lately I like the feel of my Wet reverb for cleaner passages or lead.

Re: Reverb or Chorus

Heavy band: neither
Surf, country, blues or jazz: reverb
Prog/alt rock: chorus
