Reverb Or Delay?

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I use both on almost all the time. I have a short spring reverb from my amp and use a longer Strymon Bluesky modulated reverb when playing atmospheric styles (which is my main style). Then on top of that I use the very handy Flashback X4 which allows me to click between 3 presets. My short delay preset is also on almost constantly. If I had to choose one it would definetely be the reverb though! I don't really like the sound of delay on its own with absolutely no reverb, but reverb on its own sounds heavenly. Tone is very personal though!

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

Only problem with the V1 was that the controls were crammed together and it had those small, knurled pot shafts. Not really a problem if you stick with settings that you like. The V2 pots are pretty cramped as well but the knobs are full size.

I don't own either. I just have an Earthquaker Dispatch Master . Only a single footswitch so it's either reverb or delay or a mix. Or, knob fiddling.

V2 inbound as of today! :)

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I have some light reverb on 99% of the time to create depth, that said, if I could only have one pedal it would be delay. As mentioned, there are some nice 2 in 1 pedals out there.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I wanted a real simple and cheap reverb so I have this one incoming.
Every clip I heard seemed to show that is has just the right amount of mix, which is fixed.
The dial simply adjusts the length of reverb trail.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I'm loving these little one-knob pedals recently. When they sound good there's honestly nothing better. Simplicity and take up no space. Especially for effects that dont need much altering (for me, chorus, on or off). Let us know!

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I use the dispatch master, has cavernous-huge-spacious-ambient verb, and delay digital, not pristine clean delay but a little "warmth", very musical. At low settings it'll do slapback and dotted eighth stuff nicely but is very touchy with the time knob, but it has almost infinite repeats on tap. Low reverb settings have a big room sound, higher settings are not unlike being at the other end of a cathedral from your amp, or you can actually dial the reverb tone to a darker or brighter tone but it's a long decay. It does not surf or sound like a plate, it is a little over the top on the reverb indeed, but I really like it. Looks cool, not too expensive. Quiet switch, bright LED. No noise in my loop but slight hiss in front of the amp. I use it in the loop, and I have my amp's spring verb available as well.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

Depends on the type of music . Delays for more "spacey" stuff , reverbs for more consistency . I see myself using less and less delays these days ...

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I like both effects , but have you ever noticed any excesses of specially reverbs can create a very blurry sound ? excessive delays are also something that sounds weird in some instances .

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I am all about the weird. The weirder and blurrier the better (for many things I do).

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I'm all about subtle. Sometimes I'll make my verb and delay dominant I the mix, but usually I'm putting it so far back that you only notice it when there is a rest between phrases.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

Both! I usually have both on, just not at very high levels. I set them up so that you barely know they are there, they affect my playing in a good way but if I switch them off you would notice. I use an EQD dispatch master on my one board for both and the reverb on my Mark V 35 with an MXR carbon copy delay on my other board.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

They both have their place, but if forced to choose one...it would be DELAY every day.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

Studio, anything goes. Plate reverb, echo chamber, tape delay, analog delay, digital delay, etc... whatever works.

In particular, I'm a huge fan of EMT140 plate and Echoplex delay types.

+1

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

My Line 6 Spidervalve has a reverb called "slapback reverb". It combines a short delay with a fast decay reverb.
I think that it's my favorite.

I lean that way on cleans to mid-gain stuff, but tend to go much more subtle with high-gain. (especially with reverb and phasing)

Step-mode on the Boss ph-3 and mode-2 on the ph-2 are both absolutely entrancing for dreamy ringing-out clean stuff.

Re: Reverb Or Delay?

I prefer Verb on these days , really . I Play some sort of Power / Thrash Metal , and Delays PLUS Verbs don´t work for fast riffage , unless the delay is set very subtle . Verb , in other hand , can add thickness to the sound , but you still cand recognize the notes , while playing Thrash Metal , for example .
