Reverb Tank question

I've had problems with my Classic 30 for years and I think I've finally found the problem. I took out the reverb tank, and the springs are extremely loose. I'm sure they're supposed to be. If I barely tap on the tank, the springs clank the sides of the tank. So if I tilt the amp foward then lean it back, it makes a sound like "clash, clash, clash,clash..." and is amplified. I've not seen other amps do this. Do I need to replace the tank?

Re: Reverb Tank question

I used to have a fender amp like that. You could give the amp a kick and it would sound like a cave full of bats were bouncing around in there . . . as far as I know, that's normal (as long as it only happens when you tilt/kick the amp).

My Classic 30's reverb is also a pain in the arse.... it is ultra sensitive.... and when i have it in the back of my car driving around you hear the dam reverb slapping around like crazy.

Something is not designed that good with that reverb unit... i'm curious if it can be disconnected or at least replaced with a better unit myself

Re: Reverb Tank question

The problem is it's not just when I move the amp, it does it if I have a speaker in the amp. I have to use it just as an amp head (with no speaker in it) with cab sitting next to it. If it sits on top of the cab or has a speaker in it it does what I mentioned before.

I know it can be disconnected and I can take it out, but I like a little reverb. I know it's not normal for it to be THAT sensitive. The ones I've played at music stores don't do this.

Re: Reverb Tank question

See if you can buy any replacement springs for it (or a whole new reverb unit if you think you need it) from someone like Accutronics . . .
