Reverb

Who uses it? Who doesn't? I just tried turning my reverb off for the first time in awhile. I hated the sound. I run my clean channel with reverb around 7, OD around 3. It makes things more ... alive.

Re: Reverb

At home - all the time

On recordings - all the time

Live - nope. it tends to make your guitar vanish in the mix and 9 times outa 10 theres already enough natural reverb in the place - why add more?

Re: Reverb

Not very often. I mostly just use it for dirty leads. My cleans are squeaky clean with nothing but compression going on.

Re: Reverb

This is a good thread! Thanks, Tom.

I was in a metal band in the early 90's. All the guys in the band were using reverb out the wazoo, except the drummer (and his was all natural...hehe). So I suggested, since we sounded mushy, that the first step was to cut the reverb. 100% improvement in our sound. We were tighter and had lots more definition. At that point, when we adjusted our EQ's on the amps it actually made a difference in the sound.

Now, I play mostly with a very light reverb when jamming...I play with a bit more when I practice.

Re: Reverb

I loves a little reverb.

Hey Tom, Do u go to the Bartlett H.S. in Webster?

Re: Reverb

I used to play duo Jazz guitar with the Band Director there. His name is Jeff Flynn and he's a Badass player.

Actually, about 5 yrs ago, I came in & him & I jammed jazz standards for about an hour in front of one of his band classes.

Re: Reverb

Wow that's awesome! I actually didn't know he played guitar. I spent my extra time in art classes there, so I never had a music class.

Re: Reverb

Yeah... lots of beginners use reverb at 100% any time, any passages.

That is a big mistake (been there done that me too!!!). Now I rarely use it, only when needed.

Re: Reverb

Reverb adds some dimention to your sound, But it can also muddy things
up. In a clean amp reverb is a major part of my tone. it gives your notes
some fullness and hang time. In a high gain amp verb can get muddy.
IMHO deley will work better for leads but you don't want it on playing
power chords. Experiment with different setting. :)

Hey I do that all the time, and Ive been playing over 26 years!
No, really...I do...check this out...get a digital reverb, set the signal to 100% wet, longest reverb tail...play a chord, and fade it in with your volume knob...instant Space music!! Add a delay to loop the chord and play over top of it...very cool!

Re: Reverb

I almost always keep the amp reverb on about 2 or 3. Not enough to really hear it at a gig but I feel it adds just a little bit of depth and dimension and softens up the feel of the amp.

If I want like a more spatial hollow effect on certain stuf then I'll use a healthy dose of hall reverb on my G-Major (the cathedral kind with glassy top, love that stuff!) and for surf music I dial up a boingy spring sound. But other than that I just just a TEEEENSY bit of reverb.

I LOVE delay though. I use to have it on all the freakin time and about a year ago I weaned myself off it. Now I only use it about 50% of the time haha

Re: Reverb

Wow, this thread was put up especially for me. I was just playing the National Anthem on my guitar today and felt it needed something. I thought about getting a reverb/phase pedal to make it sound niiiccee and perty, as a result. So, I think I will give that a try. Oh, BTW, in keeping with the thread I agree with Mantic. Depends on what your playing.
