I have a set of the ol' hand-finished "slot top" non-locking Sperzels. On those, the slot and drilled safety hole are (intentionally) a different size on each machinehead post.
The post heights are different for each machinehead. (The idea was to achieve the correct break angle on a Fender headstock without the need for a string guide.) In other words, each machinehead is purpose-built for just one individual string location.
