REVERSE WOUND/POLARITY question

we all know the benefits of a RW/RP pickup used together w/ a "regular" pup, like on a strat. well, here's my question:
does using the RW/RP pup together with 2 pups offer the same quality of noise canceling? i've not played 3-pup guitars that allow all 3 to be activated, but i'll be replacing the pups on my 4 (yes, FOUR) pup model soon and am curious about how to best set it up for hum cancellation, etc.

Well no.. because there would be 2 Pickups in phase and one out of phase and the two first would be stronger together... (at least i think what I just told was right, but it won't work anyway)
Basicaly it's the same if you have a humbucker and a sc together (HB unsplit)... doesn't work good (i have that)

The noise capture by one pickup will be cancell with the hum of another, so you still will have the noise of the third pup. If you want to have 4 pickups at the same time you will need two of them RW/RP to have a full humcancelling set.

breogan: thanks for the link. if i understand properly, the reverse winding of one pup will only affect the "regular" winding of one pup, in terms of hum-cancelling? so that if a 3rd pup is engaged, regardless of its winding direction, it will have some hum? (if so, that's not so bad cuz if 3 pups are engaged in parrallel then i'll have only half the hum.) normally i use 2 or 3 pups together. so,i think i'll have to figure out which ones i use most frequently together in order to figure out which ones should be RW/RP so that my guitar will be quiet in MOST positions. (i don't care about being noiseless, i just don't want to be noisy. well, i don't usually...)

anyhow, what you are referring to is a phase issue, which is not affected by reverse winding. i do get what you mean by the sc/hb combo. it's quieter than 2 sc's w/out reverse winding but not totally silent. using 2 HBs and wiring them so you can throw an individual pickup into parallel is better: less hum than a HB/SC combo.
