Below is my post from 03/09/16. A few days turned into 3 months....better late than never, I guess! Anyway, before I go into detail about how freaking awesome this pickup is and how satisfied I am with it, a quick repost of my original 03/09/16 post.
"I'll be doing a full review in a few days, but just wanted to give thanks to firebirdguy1972 for his outstanding work on a tele bridge pickup he wound for me.
From vintage to hot vintage to broadcaster to Nocaster to 1/4 lb to Pre-B to P-90ish to stacked to blade and from cheep to boutique, I've tried quite a few tele bridge pups in the past 15 years. The majority of the pickups I used were excellent, and I can think of 5 of them (off the top of my head) I would be very happy with. However, that particular sound/feel keeps rolling around in my feeble brain.
A post by firebirdguy about winding his own tele pups fired me up and I sent him a PM with a few questions. Next thing, I'm asking if he'd consider winding me a pickup. And he did!
I've had the pickup in my tele for about a month now (er, 4 months!?) and I'm happy to say he nailed it! I'll get into the details when I do the review, but it's unlike any tele bridge pup I've ever used let alone heard. I wanted a very responsive, dynamic pickup with a lot of beef and very little twang....the power of a bucker with the clarity of a single coil. A tall order for sure, but Harrison delivered the goods big time!
I'm excited about this pickup and look forward to doing the review. I've played it through small amps, big amps, solid state, tube, loud, quiet, clean, crunchy, dirty, with pedals and without. I'll attempt to put into words the delicious tones I'm experiencing and the plethora of cool, inspiring tones that live within the tone (and volume) knob. More later!
OK.....just got called away for a bit of Papa duty. My grandson just turned 1 year old today and I have to take care of him for an hour or so. So, bear with me and I'll complete the review of this amazing pickup when I get back. Here's a picture of the little set up I used today. Tele into a 'Dirt Controller' overdrive pedal (Marshall Blues Breaker on one side, Supro style overdrive on other side) into a Roland Cube Street.
