Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

At 6" 175 lbs I'm not a miniature person, but I ain't Magnus Magnusson either and that's just too hefty for lil' old me. :D
Pump some iron. Put on some muscle. youll be bad ass.-"miniature person".

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

3.) I'm glad I didn't buy one, because I can't hack an 11 lb guitar on stage. At 6" 175 lbs I'm not a miniature person, but I ain't Magnus Magnusson either and that's just too hefty for lil' old me. :D

However, YOU sound thrilled with it and have every reason to be. Congrats!
I gotta be honest with ya man. Sometimes I feel like Bigfoot. Sometimes I look in the mirror and realize I am a giant. It's kinda funny. To be honest with ya, I thought the guitar might even look small on me, then I hooped and hollered and all the beasts around here reilized it was my guitar.

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

Scale length to me looks like a 24.75

Congrats on the new guitbox Jolly

I've got a 1977 RD Standard and the scale length is 25.5. I hope Gibson haven't changed that as it's quite fundamental to how the guitar plays.

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

Looks awesome!

Gibson should do a reverse model, ala firebird...

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

For $900, I feel like I got a steal!!

If you bought it new from a store I would like a link please, the price is very good. Congrats on the guitar, although I've never played an RD I like the shape and the color.

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

sweet Jolly!!!

NEW STUFF ROCKS!!! :headbang:

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

Congrats, Jolly.

Sound like you got a real winner.

I felt the same way when I got my Explorer Pro last year for $899.
A lot of guitar for that price.

I think if one looks hard enough, they can fine some really sweet deals on the RDs, Explorers, and Vs.

Sort of glad they're not popular like the LPs.
Keeps the prices down. :D

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

Jolly, that guitar sounds sweet!

I kinda wonder what the deal is with the neck Dirty Fingers. Since Gibson doesn't normally offer them, I wonder if that neck pickup will command a premium for those wanting a matching "set" of the reissue Dirty Fingers! The original D/F sets were definitely a wind between the neck and bridge. The Zerb, and my little self love the original neck D/F's.

Not to be glory stomper, because I am already green with envy on your score... ;) I think that guitar (and other non-arched Gibsons) would look so clean with black pickguard screws in a black pickguard. You can always store the original switch plate and chrome screws in the control cavity.

I LOVE the ebony fretboard for the silverburst finish. It's a natural!

Have you got a mind for Duncans yet?

How's the sustain?

Congrats Jolly! I love the body shape, Firebird-ish sorta (do wish it had a bird or explorer headstock though). And I've become infatuated with the Silverburst color in recent months.

FWIW, my Firebird Studio was similar in size if not bigger, and was a nice weight, around 8.5 perhaps 9 pounds at most. I reckon you just got a tad unlucky with the weight. But there's nothing like a big old slab of mahogany sans maple cap- love the tone.

When ya gonna post some clips?

Glad ya dig it bro. I'm jones'in for a Firebird, that is a kool lookin' axe, but yeah, I'd be a wreck slingin' a 10 pound plus axe. Have fun!

I didn't actually put in that much playtime with the neck pickup, so I'd hate to give any misinformation or anything. I was thinking about if I wanted to put in Duncans or leave it stock. I thought it would look really good with some covers over the DF's actually. I'll just really have to put in alot more time with the guitar and see how much I like the pickups, I haven't been able to play any guitarcause of my pinched nerve and all. This has actually been the first time I've even played guitar in over a month. Anyways, you make a good point about the neck pickup. I don't think I have ever seen any for sale. I think the bridge model sells for like $120 or so. If I were to sell the DF set, I could probably get almost $200 for them. As far as sustain, it holds a note forever.:)

When ya gonna post some clips?

I'll try and do something. Like I say, I haven't even been able to play guitar in over a month because of my back and numbness in my right hand.

I've been wanting/needing to do some recording with my Marshall JVM anyways, so I'll try and get something done here in the next couple of weeks or so.

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

It looks superb, and would look even better if you took soe pics of it with a real cam. I can imagine Billy Gibbons playing that weird thing. $ 900 ? WTF, you can't even get 400-series ESP LTD with that kind of money, in here, that is (****ing low USD)

Re: Review Of My New Gibson RD Reissue Silverburst

Is the neck DF different from the bridge model ? I thought it was just a regular 'bridge' model put in neck.
