John,
I have heard that your DS-1 mod blows the keely mod away. I can't wait to hear your mod! :32: :32: :32:

Maybe you'll feel I'm being modest, but I'm not going to believe that...That's a very subjective topic.I Mean what makes one pedal better than another when everyone's ears and their views on great tone are very different? Right buddy?

I Like Robert Keeley...He's a very nice, down to earth guy and he sells great products....

Re: Review of STRATDELUXER97's BOSS DS-1 MOD!

A friend of mine came over, and that dude has been through tons of pedals. I did not tell him anything about John's mod to my old DS1, I just made him use it with a stratocaster.

After two seconds or so (I am not joking) he said, "who did this?". I grinned! :D

The reason he got it that fast is definitely the bass side. All the overdrive and distortion pedals cause some loss of bass. At least all the ones I know of. That ain't the case with John's mod!

Awesome pedal pushing a wound up Blackface Fender. I like it better than the TS-9's Ibanez is currently putting out.

The ValveTone is another real close circuit ripoff of a Tube Screamer...The only difference in the ValveTone is in the mids and an overall lack of bass in an effort to make the pedal sound Voxey....I Modded mine...These pedals are fetching some pretty big cash these days(Around $100 or so) Hang onto it..

Cap and resistor changes....Gave the pedal more gain at high drive settings, more lows...Kept the basic tone of the pedal but beefed it up and upgraded the components...Added a chip holder to mine also...

Re: Review of STRATDELUXER97's BOSS DS-1 MOD!

I listened to Curly's clips of the DS1 you modded and I have to say that while i usually play with a higher gain level I've never heard a DS1 sound THAT sweet or deep at lower gain. It sounds as if its got much more bass than the Keeley Ultra mod... is that accurate based on what I'm hearing?

Since I don't copy Keeley's mods and have no need for his pedal mods,I can't comment on his pedals? I've read some reviews but I've not plugged into any modded pedal of his to date..

I have heard the Keeley mod buddy, and I was not impressed. :offtopic:

Re: Review of STRATDELUXER97's BOSS DS-1 MOD!

Well I've heard that the Ultra mod is much better than the SEM for the enhanced low end and a fat switch (I belive it after playin with mine) but it still makes me wonder what all the fuss is about here!

Wow...I don't know quite what to say. This thing sounds sooo much better than the stock DS-1, it's a crime...really...those BOSS guys should be arrested for not bringing out the magic that is inside this pedal. :laugh2: Also, I hate to say it, since he's such a nice guy...but...BETTER THAN KEELEY! :) I tried the pedal with my friend's rig (slightly modded 83 JCM 800), and the tone this little pedal put out was almost better than plugging straight into the amp! The JCM's no slouch, though. The modded DS-1 just really compliments it nicely. Thank you STRATDELUXER97 for bringing good tone into my life.
I have to agree with you wholeheatedly, I just plugged into my new DS-1 and was blown away by the complexity of the tones that I could get out of this little orange box.
