Revised riff in 15/4 (Yes, Star Castle style song)

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
I posted the original songwriting demo for this a couple of months ago, but I was able to take advantage of the long weekend and gut the piece and re-build/re-record it. I changed just about everything: the bass line, guitar parts, drums, and keys. Now I have the first movement written (aside from some tweaking) and I am pretty happy with it.

One thing is for sure, writing this kind of music is H A A A R R R D lol. Trying to maintain a groove whilst playing fast in all the rapid time changes took LOTS of takes before I was able to get it down. I only punched in a couple of bass notes, as I ended up getting accidental pinched harmonics on a couple of notes. Otherwise, this is all whole takes.

Hope you enjoy.

Edit: Typo in the title, should read '15/8'.

Sweet! I love old Yes ..and while I had'nt really heard any Starcastle before, I got their "comeback" album from a few years ago & it was awesome..

Yeah, that's pretty convoluted as far as song writing/timing goes..:bigthumb:

Thanks! It's been a fun challenge working on it. The past couple of As Follows releases have been steering away from the neo-prog of Arthur Gordon Pym and I want to rectify that. Songs like this are built in sections over long periods of time unless you are blessed enough to have a pool of collaborators.

LOVE what happens at 1:17 and where it goes from there. I agree that this type of music is horribly difficult to compose, so hats off to a solid execution.

Some re writing, and a bit of movement on getting this closer to done. At the halfway mark now. :)
