Long short replaced the active EMG's with an sh8 and an sh11. There for a while I only had the sh8, so I left the bridge active in but it wasn't able to be used. Didn't really know what I was doing but I wound up replacing the push pull pots with just normal 500k pots. The sh8 pickup worked as did the volume, but the tone knob didn't seem to do anything, and neither did the switch. Not sure what I expected since I left the active bridge pickup in just so I didn't have an empty spot.
OK so I finally got an sh11 for the bridge, Got the pickup installed, I took out both knobs and the switch, since I wasn't sure what all I had done last time, rewired everything. Followed a SD diagram for two humbuckers, one vol, one tone, one 3 way toggle. put it all back in, decided to plug it in to amp. Nothing, no output, no humming, not a thing.
Did some research, checked all my solders, I'm 98% certain I fried both my pots. I didn't realize you could do such a thing, and I kind of had grounded the **** out of everything to the top of my pots with solder. I even checked them both on a multimeter, read 0 ohms across all terminals, obviously the knob didn't change the results.
So I've got new pots ordered, can't buy them locally.
Since I had some time, I took the old(ruined) pots out again and started cleaning up the wiring. I decided to check the output jack. wasn't really sure what to check, so I just used the multimeter to check for continuity. continuity on the ground continued across all grounds(I actually checked this part before I removed the pots). continuity on the hot one goes to the hot/out lug on the switch, but doesn't continue through the switch. Now I must admit, I am not sure if the switch should work like this, since as far as I know it's got 3 settings, neck, blended, bridge. Anyway, that was as far as I got and it puzzled me a bit SO...I took all the hardware out(just the switch at this point) and tried hooking one of(but not sure which) my pickups straight to the output jack. Once again, they're both high output passive seymour duncans so I just quadruple checked my wiring, red and white soldered together, green/bare to ground and black to hot/out. I even had made it easy for myself, not wanting to mess with the jack anymore, I soldered a red lead wire and a black lead wire coming from the jack into the hardware compartment, red was hot black was ground. back to the amp, no output, I even turned my amp up so loud(I forgot) that when I unplugged the cord from my guitar I about blew out my windows from the hum on the gain boost.
Anyway, unless I somehow ruined my pickup, I must have the output jack soldered wrong. Maybe its stereo? At this point I only have the one pickup to the jack and I'm getting nothing. Here's some pics.
