hi guys im rewiring my strat and need some advice / help. i currently have a ssl 6 in the bridge and two ssl1`s in middle and neck. iwant to change the ssl 6 for a p rails as i have one lying around from another project. my questions are, can i use the bridge ssl6 in the neck and what vol , tone controls and caps would you suggest . the prails will be on a three way toggle for p90 , rails and humbucker sounds. any help would great .

IMO, if you are going to fit a P-Rails as a bridge position PU, it ought to be the hot version. The P-Rails is capable of producing four coil combinations - not counting out-of-phase ones. Why restrict yourself to three?

Yes, you can use an SSL-6, originally meant for the bridge position, in the neck position.

Personally, I would stick with the SSL-6/1/1 combination. (That's just me. Don't take any notice.) If you want to dispose of the SSL-6 for a reasonable price, PM me.

if it were going into an HSS strat, i'd actually prefer the normal version so the output would match up with the singles. he could go for all 4 combinations, though who knows if he actually wants that?:dunno:

you can definitely put the ssl-6 in the neck, you'll just have two hotter pickups in the neck and bridge than the single in the middle. for volume and tone, i'd suggest either 250k all around, or a stacked 500k/250k for the volume with the p-rails hooked up to the 500k half if you don't find it bright enough. as for the cap, i always suggest a low value orange drop cap.

and cool avatar bro!

Re: rewiring my strat . advice needed

thanks for the advice guys .the guitar is used mainly in my classic rock band and i think the p90 side of things will get used the most , with the option of the rails / middle for clean / funk stuff . was just a bit confused about whether to use a .022 or a .047 cap.
thans again rob

who's rob?

as far as the cap goes, the higher the value the more it cuts off. a .015 will only cut off your treble and some high mids, whereas a .047 will go all the way down to your lower mids and leave you with mostly bass.

seriously, who's rob!??

I'm assuming that his name is Rob and he was signing the post but he just forgot the comma.

Thanks again Rob.

becomes:

Thanks again, Rob.

Or even better...

Thanks again,

-Rob
