Hey peeps just wanted to find out more about these tubes.I can buy a brand new one never used except for testing for 30.00 plus 10 for shipping. I have seen these for 60 bucks on other sites. I just wanted to know if they are a nice sounding tube?? I heard they are warm and give nice cruch to amps like a Marshall etc.. which I have a DSL 40c to try it in. Also, have a chance to buy vintage Mullards for good prices. One is a 1962 and the other is a "Blackburn" but wanted to wait until I know more about what to look for in older vintage tubes. So am thinking of the RFT for now.

"blackburn" is the city in England which they were made (Mullard factory in Blackburn).

You can tell if a Mullard (or re-labeled Mullard) comes from Blackburn by the 2nd code on the tube; of which IIRC the 1st entry would be a "B" for Blackburn.

e.g. B766

I can dig up my old tube coding info if you need it.

The RFT12ax7s are well regarded these days, I keep meaning to get a couple, but just haven't done it.

AudioTubes.com is a great place to go and read about all the details of manufacture and tonality for the various tubes of yesteryear.

RFT makes my green channel little too warm doing power chords on the 6th and 5th strings, but open chords are nice but im sticking to the JJ 803 for my v2 and tungsol in the v1. I would use a Mullard instead there smooth:) Bought mine RFT from the Tube Monger for 35.00 awhile back and they ship there tubes in tupperware containers, cant beat that!

I've got an RFT 12ax7 in V1 in my Peavey XXX ($30 bucks from Russia; I don't know what I was thinking ordering from Russia).

Any future multichannel amps that I purchase will also have an RFT 12ax7 in v1. It really smoothed out the XXX's gain and made it more '3-d'. Between the RFT and the Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the Phase Inverter, my XXX is sounding better than ever.

I also switch the RFT into the v1 in my Ampeg VL503. Get one.

Re: RFT 12AX7 NOS preamp tube

Awesome yeah thats where I'll put the RFT in V-1. I have a MID GAIN JJ in v-1 and a 803 in V-2 and a JJ 5751 in V-3 and the Sovtek LPS12ax7 in PI. I may go RFT/MID GAIN/5751/LPS or RFT/803/5751/LPS something like that. Once it gets here should get here by Monday I bought my RFT for 30 bucks. I like the darker warmer tone.I'm not a bright sounding tone guy.lol

Re: RFT 12AX7 NOS preamp tube

I've got one in the V1 of my 15 watt Goldea Rex 3200 high gain head...followed by a regular JJ in V2 and a Sovtek LPS in V3. The two output EL84's were RFT's too (I switched them out after one died of old age haha)...I loved them! But the Russian 6P14's (EL84 eqivalents) I've got in there right now sound almost as good. I'd get some more but they've got pretty pricey...
