I'm about to invest in a couple of the Rhode NT5s for instrument mics and was just wondering if people had any opinions about them...I hear they're a fair bit better than an SM57...?
If you're using them as OH's or on hats/rides, acoustics guitars, strings, or a piano, then yeah, they're better than an SM57 just by principal of condensor vs. dynamic.
For micing a guitar amp, I personally don't like condensors, and I've never heard of anybody using a pencil condensor on a guitar amp.
I think if you are just getting a mic collection together you could spend your money better. These are more of a specialty mic where you want a stereo pair for as mentioned piano, overheads, acoustic guitar etc.
