Rhythm PuP for Tele?

Re: Rhythm PuP for Tele?

My recommendation is to yank the cover off your existing pickup. That will go a long way toward de-muffling it.

Folks talk a lot about replacing standard Tele neck pu's but they really are a wonderful pickup as is, sweeter than a Strat pu. Just lose the cover.

And there you have it - forum genuis at work. Amazing!

I'm gonna vote route that sucker for a PG neck, and toss a push pull in one of the pots - but that's me.

Re: Rhythm PuP for Tele?

I never was fond of Tele neck pickups (or most Tele pickups for that matter) until I installed the new DiMarzio Area T set. Can't say enough good about those pickups.

Since it's a neck pickup your after, the Area T neck is very even sounding. The bass is relaxed without being mushy, the mids are strong without being overly so and the high end has a nice bit of punch to it. Very clean and clear sounding and I'll tell you what...you can play "Little Wing" and "Hey Joe" with this pickup NO problem. I tried 3 other Tele neck pickups and thought they were all some of the most uneven pickups I ever heard.

I have the Fralin Blues Special that Lew mentioned, in mine and it's a great pickup, very articulate. I have it paired with a Broadcaster Lead, and a 4-way switch.
