Rick Nielsen can do no wrong

Is he the coolest guy or what?
I'm pretty sure he's had one of the biggest collections of guitars. I've watched a few tours and rig run downs of his and he always entertains end enlightens.

Very cool. Apart from the fact that the collection is massive, it seems to be full of nice and interesting stuff.

Is the top on that 9 8012 burst insane or what? Never seen a vintage one with mega figuring like that. And the korina stuff – get outta town.

I don't know. Talking to that Mark D-bag is honestly a strike against Rick in my book.

But worth the watch - definitely.

My guess is Rick and he were friends when Mark was at Gruhns. Heck, he might have sold Rick some guitars while working there. And I doubt Rick gives a shit about a public relations "sin".

I've got mixed feelings.. yes incredible musician and performer but his buying spree devalued my mutt.

I've got a 61 SG lp that had a complete makeover in the early '70s. Early DiMarzio pafs replace the p90s, grover tuners badass bridge... far nicer player than stock 61s.. it's a killer, narrow neck solo monster.

It plays so well that I regularly got offers 10 or 15% above stock 61s. But that was when the rarebird market was relatively affordable.

And then Nelson and John Entwistle acquired a considerable percentage of rare birds and their value shot out of sight and the mutts got left behind.

Of course, if I was in his shoes I would have done exactly the same thing :-) and I keep looking for someone out there that wants a nice hunk of 1961 mahogany that remains gigable in the real world.

Thanks for posting this video!

Awesome video. Thx. I was JUST thinking about Neilson… he is a guitarist that most people know about which is funny because his band was kind of a lower tier rock band… but everyone knows his name. Just thought it was interesting.

Lower tier yet in the RnR HOF. Granted the HOF is kind of a shit show at times but CT have one of the greatest live albums of all time and several songs that are total classics. Rick's style was/is iconic so of course he will stand out over the course of a 50 year career.

Having a 50 year career playing guitar with the same band is to be celebrated. I remember first reading about his collection in Guitar Player magazine, long before people thought guitars were worth collecting.
I wonder if he has a book out documenting his collection? I have Geddy Lee's collection book.

I've always liked Rick. His playing, his tone, his guitar collection, his humor. I've not met him but from what I have heard from those who have, he is a really good guy.

In which Rick barely scratches the surface of his incredible collection of rare and cool guitars, all the while spinning his amazing stories about them.
Definitely worth the hour and eighteen minutes to watch, so kick back and enjoy!

Sweet! I still have my Rick Nielsen pick from the early 80s.

Great video, coolest guy ever being interviewed by the least cool guy ever :lmao:

I had a student a few years ago who is from Rick's hometown. He went to school with his daughter. Went over to visit, did not know who Rick was at the time. Told me Rick was extremely nice and there were guitars everywhere in the house.
Any man who is really nice to a dweeby teen boy there to visit his teen daughter must be a genuinely good person!
