Rickenbacker 480

Hi

I own a '75 Rickenbacker 480. I really like the sound of this guitar, but i'm frustrated with bad pickups. They are extremely weak and miles apart! The bridge is weak and thin, and the neck is bassy, no highs what so ever, and about three times as loud as the bridge.

Are the pickups dead? Or is this normal on this rick?

I have the antiquitys in almost all of my guitars, i love really love those pickups. Does seymour make any rick pickups for guitar?

Re: Rickenbacker 480

Dabros,
Seymour's Rick pickups are Custom Shop models, therefore not inexpensive.

you might want to consider having yours rewound, although I don't know who to recommend in Europe, and Ricks are a bit of a specialty

Re: Rickenbacker 480

+1 on rewinding.

Failing that, there are online vendors that sell Ric manufactured replacement pickups.

Re: Rickenbacker 480

They are normal and working fine.

To over come this, I usualy play in the middle on the selector and dial the pickup blender to taste.

Otherwise, your other option is to buy custom shop pickups or have your's re-wound as the others have said.

Edit* Whoops sorry, didn't notice that you don't have a pickup blender.

Re: Rickenbacker 480

Ok, i seriously doubt that they are working as they should? Most other 2 pickup ricks like the 650 (and 620 i think?) don't have this problem, as far as i know?

Some guys on harmony central claim that there is a capacitor on the circuit that kills all the bottom on the bridge. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
