Re: Ridiculous Amps!

I just found my perfect amp - the Mesa/Boogie Stiletto head. Holy **** - like an old Marshall on steroids, and could get the greatest clean and dirty sounds. I was going nuts in the store. And more power than you'd ever need.

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

if you liked the fuchs, try a two rock ... similar style ... both are incredible .. and will eat up that $3500 easily

cheers

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

I tried the Marshall TSL 100 Head and it is pretty good. It costs about 1300$ new. Check it out!

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

Either the Hughes & Kettner TriAmp mk. 2 or any Engl that tickles your fancy. :) I'd probably go for an Engl Powerball.

Edith Piaf: but then again, I'm perfectly satisfied with my Marshall DSL100. It's all I need, and I use it for everything ranging from jazz to extreme metal a la Darkthrone and Immortal. :newangel:

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

Did yo check the new Mesa Stileto Deuce head? Thoose are said to be amzing amps... It's a quartet of EL84 tubes. The have very usefull features like the power reducing switch that makes the gain go from 100W to 50W. For even more versatility (althought less power) they are about to releases the Lonestar Special, also with EL84 with 30W, 15W and 5Watts, this last one working in Class A.

I only read great reviews of this amps...

El Paso. What kind of voicing are you thinking of putting into your amps?

I'm not sure what Jeff is talking about regarding his new line, but the 2205 I had him mod is outstanding. He completely re-wired it PTP, giving me outstanding clean tones ala Fender Blackface and incredible Marshall tones ranging from AC/DC type JMP crunch thru Plexi to full throttle 2204 tones. Really nice work.

The thing that I think Jeff does better than anyone else out there is customize the tone to what YOU want, not what he wants. Splawn and Voodoo are great as well, but they seem to have more of a fixed mindset about what is going to happen to your amp. Jeff will take what you want and help you achieve it.

There are a ton of amps in your poll that would be fantastic. If I were to pick a stock amp, it would be the Bogner. However, with your $3500 you could commission Jeff to build you whatever you want, with top quality components, buy the cabs you want and still have $$ leftover. If you really want something that special, have it built for you.

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

i dont think i could ever buy a road king, based solely on the fact that theres so many damn knobs and whistles on it that i couldnt figure out how to get any sound out of it one time

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

If Bogner and Diezel are out of the price range, take a good look at Splawn. If I didn't have my amp, I'd probably buy a Splawn halfstack. I love the ones with the curly maple front panel, which were done by McNaught guitars.
Order one of these!!!

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

I am with GearJonser on the Bogner. James Peters does some nice multi-channels stuff also. But, if I weren't totally happy with my Laney, I would take a look at a Germino.

I know you were probably just making a point but... It's not so bad actually, if you look at it one channel at a time.
1.Select the voicing (eg. Clean, Fat, Brit)
2.Select your power tubes (2x6L6, 2xEL34, etc.)
2a. Select Tube or Diode rectifier
3.Dial in the gain, volume and tone controls like you normally would

Actually, it is pretty complex isn't it? ;) You've still got variax, cabinet selection and effects loop settings, not to mention if you want to run the EL34s in pentode or triode... lol

Re: Ridiculous Amps!

no, im dead serious. i couldnt get any sound out of the damn thing. maybe there was some other problem, but it just left a bad impression

Sounds like something I'd make, if I ever built an amp.

But I'd be just as happy with a 5150 halfstack.
