Sad that this thread still has no love...I guess if it's not a thread about a Dumble, a Klon or or some no talent "rock star" it's not worth talking about.
FWIW, I have JD's bands album...Simo and it's a great record!

I love listening to player/gearheads who are as neurotic as me. I found it interesting that he's using the Bonamassa wah, and did the same thing to it that I did.....move the pot a notch or two in the treble direction.

Young Man, Old Man and Clementia's Lament rank up there with my favourite tracks of all time, easily as good as anything put out in the 60s.
I was excited to hear they just finished the second album. Also very interested to hear that he uses the Cascade Fat Head mic, that's the same mic I used on my new album as well.
Yeah, the Simo album gets regular play on my iPod.

I don't tweak the pot (JD doesn't either) but I do shorten the travel. Been doing that on my newer wahs for years...once you get used to the narrow sweep of an old wah it's hard to go to a new wah.

I've only recently gotten Simos first album but I agree...really amazing record!

After watching this, I realize I as a player can't think this hard about my stuff. I find tone in so many simple places, that I don't know if I even have any set rules anymore. I have been surprised by so many cheap amps, so many cheap speakers, so many cheap guitars, so many tube combinations... Once I found the magic in a Shure Vocal Master, I relaxed a bit.
After watching this, I realize I as a player can't think this hard about my stuff. I find tone in so many simple places, that I don't know if I even have any set rules anymore. I have been surprised by so many cheap amps, so many cheap speakers, so many cheap guitars, so many tube combinations... Once I found the magic in a Shure Vocal Master, I relaxed a bit.

I find I'm the opposite with wahs. I like a wah with a huge range and have learned to use the upper half of my freaker wah for more traditional stuff and the full range for a good vomity wah. I have my Teese RMC3 set up like a color sound with a good range too.

In most cases for me it's not the range in terms if tone.
It's the physical range if motion in the shell itself...

I've always noticed my different wahs gave different throw lengths. Interesting.
I just went out and cranked up my JCM800... Treb and mid full and bass cut. I know a plexi would be a different animal, but it really sounded GREAT! Cranked of course

His music isn't really my thing but I'll say the guy can play and has great showman ship. Although I did smell a whiff of cork in that interview but if he can hear the difference more power to him.
