Rio Grand Wiring issues

Hi folks, I am hoping soneone here knows a little about Rio Grande Pickups. basic question is do they use the same wire color codes that Duncan uses.

I just purchased a BBQ and a Texas each with 4 wire. I tried wiring using the diagram on the Rio Site here for coil tapping :

and when it failed I tried here using the basic setup:
http://www.riograndepickups.com/images/wiring/Small_2hum4.pdf

Neither setup gives me anything more than bad noise. In the latter, I did get some tone out of the pickup but only when I touch the shaft on the volume pot with my fingers.

I really think there is a flaw in the Rio Grande Schematics somewhere.

I want to just use the SD wiring schematics, since they have never let me down.

Anyone have any experience with these pickups or even better with this diagram??? Any advice??

I am about to give up and just take it to a tech. I have installed pickups several times before and never had this much trouble. I am sure it is in the schematic colors , but don't have the expertise to check and verify the wires.

Thanks Tom

Re: Rio Grand Wiring issues

I looked over the RG schematics in comparison to the SD schematics and it looks like:
red/RG = black/SD
white/RG = green/SD

coil tap:

black & green/RG = white & red/SD

Re: Rio Grand Wiring issues

Thanks, I completely unwired earlier today when I got fed up. I will start fresh later this week (have to go out of town tomorrow AM) and use the conversion chart to rewire with SD schematics.

May order new pots, caps, etc.. in the meantime.

I checked the pickups with a meter, and they seemed to be okay, maybe something else was grounding out.

Is there any way to test the wiring as you go using a test meter??

Usually if I do other projects on amps and such, I test each connection after I solder, doesn't seem to be a way with pickups although admittedly not to savvy on this subject.

Thnks Tom

Tried Rio Grande pups, Gave up on them. Have them in an old tool box back home.
