Rise and Fall of 3 Humbucker Guitars

Whats a great example of a middle pickup only tone -that is not phased/mixed with others or messed with?

Like a nice classic clean or overdriven example that anyone likes on here.

My own guitars with a middle have not been the best tone option usually when recording
Robin Trower prefers the middle position.

Yes, I see a couple other artist recommends -but no one has definitely declared a track as listen to "*****" track -and that it was recorded for sure on middle only -not mixed/blended or with a lot of post production on it.

So is their a Trower example that is what you would consider the best example to check?

thanks!

clapton is one that lives on the middle pup of a strat. he will use the other positions, but uses the middle by itself more than any other position from what ive seen

My favorite of that sound. I use this to test Strat middle pickups. If they don't do this, they're out.

Yeah! Wonderful, I don't do a lot of Strat -but thats a nice middle.

It's worth noting that more often you will see him using a Gibson Les Paul goldtop in the treble position or a Grestch Duo Jet in the middle position for the same sound - so while most guitar players eschew the Strat middle pickup, it really sits in an equivalent place in tone that most other guitar players are indeed already using.

When I was playing guitar, I determined that 3 hum guitars were absolutely my jam. My favorite set up that you could order a warmoth pickguard for was minis in neck and middle and full hb in bridge. I think a stack in the middle with this set up is also ridiculously versatile.

My favorite custom pickguard I made was a mini humbucker in the neck then an angled sc size hb right behind that as a bitey 2nd neck pickup, then a bridge hb.

I do like 3 full size hbs as stock offerings. I don't really need that much slop in the neck tho for rock and general playing.
