Rivera? Anyone rocking them?

Hello all,
I just got the latest Shadows Fall CD and was noticing the different guitar tone. They use to play Krank amps which sound amazing , just check out Threads of Life or Fall out from the war. I picked up Fire from the sky just yesterday.
I missed a few CD's but plan on picking them all up as I really like this band but haven't kept up with the times since I got the last 2 I own.
I play a Krank Revolution 1 and really love it's clean tone. I also dig the drive channel with the 2 different volume levels for the drive channel so you can lead boost.
The Rivera sounds more Marshall but has still the Brutal drive of Todays modern gain amps but very clear and defined. My quest here is to check one out along with a Revolution 1 + which is the last Krank amp made in that series before they went under and then opened up the new company in Revolution amps.
I don't really have a ton of desire to check them out but if I came across them I would.
I'm a 80's metal guy left over but have incorporated the newer style into my playing. The krank does everything I want it to do except have the ability to get some softer 80's metal tones , classic rock tones etc as the drive channel is really designed for heavy no matter what was said or how you set it up. I have tried and found just using pedals in front of the clean channel to get the other tones I want.

So I'd like to hear from you Rivera amp players and let me know how you use it and why you picked one up over everything else offered out there.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Re: Rivera? Anyone rocking them?

I had an R100 combo. It was a good, versatile amp. It did about everything well, but nothing sounded really great to me. At the time I was buying and selling gear rather frequently, so I sold the amp when I found a local buyer who payed well for it. Incidentally, I bought a THD Univalve with the money from the Rivera and the THD has about all but ended my amp search for me since.

What's the story with Rivera? When did he leave Fender to start his own company?

Mid/late '80s???? He did the Super Champ, the Fender 30, Fender 75 and the Concert, that I know of; and probably others.

I've played on several Riveras over the years. I like them; they are a well made amp. But....

Some of the older models always sounded a bit stiff and sterile to me. The Mesa's I have always seemed to sound a bit spongier, more forgiving and more toneful in low volume situations. Some of the big Rivera amps though, can really bring it--just crushing volume.

The Venus amps are supposed to be very good; a used Venus 6 just showed up at a shop near me, and I'm going to have to try it. The Pubster, Clubster and Chubster amps are a couple of others that I've been wanting to look at.

I think one of their big endorsers was Steve Lukather. Doyle Dykes used their Sedona model, I think it is, that works for both acoustic-electrics and electric guitars.

I had a Rake that was a great amp. I'd still have it had I not gone the AxeFx route.
