Rivera Thirty Twelve

There is a guy at my church who used to play guitar regularly. Last fall, he took a job working in NOLA, and he hasn't played since. Well, today he played with us again.

He is the one I have mentioned before that gives new meaning to the term "musical instruments." He has owned countless guitars and amps since I've known him.

Today, he showed up with a PRS Singlecut *drool* and a Rivera Thirty Twelve. I have one comment:

SSSSCCHHHHWWWWWEEEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He changed the speaker to a Celestion Classic Lead 80. The magnet on that thing is HUGE.

I didn't get to play it (maybe next week), but his tone was amazing.

Anyone else ever play this amp?

Re: Rivera Thirty Twelve

i haven't played this particular Rivera, but every Rivera i have played, i've liked...and actually the only thing that i don't like about them is all those knobs...i think i'd drive myself crazy with them!!! LOL :smack: :laugh2: :smack:

Re: Rivera Thirty Twelve

Yep. As you said, a ssssscccccchhhhhwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeettttttt amp.

I am still kicking myself, 6 years later, for selling mine. Perfect mix of tone, small size, managable weight, tone, features, tone, and tone. Essential Fender and Marshall tones in one box, IMHO.

Thinking of picking one up?

Warning! Off-topic tangent: A sleeper amp that can fit the 30-12's shoes is the Tech 21 Trademark 60, BTW. Reminds me exactly of my old Rivera. My boutique gear snob friend played through my Trademark 60 last weekend, and wanted to know what kind of tubes it used. Heh. He soiled himself when I told him no tubes, 36 pounds, and $500. Now he's thinking about selling his Bad Cat and Top Hat amps.

Re: Rivera Thirty Twelve

Actually, with the speaker change this one was quite heavy. I'd estimate between 60-70 pounds. At any rate, it was significantly heavier than my POD xt Live;)

But it sure sounded purty.

Re: Rivera Thirty Twelve

Stock, I don't like the R series combos...they are boxy sounding and kinda thin...the cabs just don't let the amps "breathe". That is why the Chubster and Suprema were designed..they are R series guts with a bigger cab ...chubster is open/half back..suprema a closed back design. They make a WORLD of difference

I can see why the CL80 would make that R30 sound so good..would add alot of fullness to help counteract the thin nature of the stock cabinet.

But yeah.Riveras are really underrated. Awesome boutique type tone for a reasonable price. Def the best Fender and Marshall vibe in one "box" I've encountered that didn't cost you out the wazooo.

Re: Rivera Thirty Twelve

I wanna kill the one we have at work;)...there is nothing about that amp I like:D
Rivera is not my kind of amp, had one as well, only liked the M60 head out of all the amps I have tried made by Paul.
And we carried them all in the shop where I used to work.
