Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

I don't even understand what an "unstable" guitar body would do,,,,,,,or not do??????????

If it’s an acoustic instrument, the top will shift and the body could come apart. If it’s a solid body electric, exactly what you think it would do.

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

I personally hate the tone of roasted Maple necks. To me they are dead and lack life.
Check this out.

I hear a huge difference clean. Distorted they sound exactly the same to me. That said, I'd want to hear a comparison of a great many necks rather than just the two in this guy's videos to draw any conclusions. Maybe the neck that was roasted was just darker sounding even before being burned due to some quirk of the wood.

Warmoth offers top-notch quality in all necks and bodies. What you're asking about simply doesn't belong to the realm of reality, if you ask me.

Re: Roasted Bodies Stability Questions

I contacted Warmoth on roasted bodies' durability. They said that if most roasted woods are left unfinished/exposed to the "elements", they will behave pretty-much the same way normal woods do regarding moisture and will break down normally like non-roasted woods.

The exception to that is roasted Maple. Roasted Maple, for some reason, is actually more resistant to the elements if it is left unfinished compared to not roasting.
They only gave a supposition as to why. The supposition is that the sugars semi-seal the wood, but that's just a guess on their part.

So MY personal guess/opinion is that, in practice, unless you're roasting a Maple neck and not putting a finish on it, roasting is mostly for aesthetics, which is fine, but not relevant for my specific use case.
I will say that roasted bodies, especially swamp ash look super clean when given a fully clear or transparent coloring to them.

I personally, will not order a roasted body because aesthetics were never my concern, and the roasted body will not likely be more stable than a non-roasted body, but that's just me.

Interesting, thanks for doing the research and presenting it here. It might help a lot of people decide on this kind of thing.

Same here I think the entire thing is just marketing BS on the body. Necks are supposedly more stable so can see that. I personally think a roasted neck sounds dead in comparison to a normal well cured maple neck and noticeably so.

I don't think so on it just being those 2 necks. I have been looking at grabbing a neck for my Strat so have really been looking into what woods I want and the tones. I have noticed after playing several guitars with roasted necks that I love the feel of the unfinished neck in my hand but there was always just something lacking in response. Couldn't put my finger on it but consistently just that feeling that something was lacking in the dynamics and sparkle in tone in comparison to a normal non roasted neck.
