Robin Trower

Hi, I was looking for a search function on the forum to see if I could find threads already on this topic but cannot find where the search feature is.

My question is which Seymour Duncan pickups would be the closest match to what's loaded in the Fender Robin Trower signature series strat. The configuration is a Custom 54 neck, Custom 60 RWRP mid, Custom Texas Special bridge. Also, which pots would be recommended for the SD equivalent pickups or would my stock pots work as is? I plan to install these in my 2006 Highway 1 strat.

Thanks in advance

Did you find your answer?

I didn't find exactly what I'm looking for as far as like for like comparison between Seymour Duncan to each Fender pickup. However I found the SD Psychedelic neck and middle pick up is pretty close. I may just get a set of those. I'm open to other recommendations though.

I was going to recommend
SSL-5 bridge, SSL-1 middle/neck
Antiquity Texas Hot bridge, Antiquity II Surfer middle/neck (might be too bright?)
but really the middle needs to be slightly hotter, so it might require like the bridge of a weak set in the middle, or the neck of a hot set in the middle.

I think SD catalogue lacks what other manufacturers sell as a calibrated set for SSL1 like PU, I mean, it's still the SC I love the most, but there is not a set (I'm shooting) 7K, 6.6K, 6.3K , BUT I've never felt the need for a calibrated set so far, although I have strats with a different bridge PU, because I like a hotter and warmer bridge.
that thing about having a perfect levelled output is a bit mythological

I believe the Antiquity Texas Hot is out of phase with all other Duncans, so keep that in mind when you mix it with different models. Just flip the hot and ground on the Antiquity.

I really like the combination of a 50s neck, 60s middle, and slightly overwound bridge.

I've got two sets like that, plus another one I put together using pickups I had on hand.
The bridges on all of those may be a tad hotter than the Texas Special in the Trower set, I think.
But it's really hard to tell from the DCR specs; most overwound bridges use thinner wire.
For instance, the 10.2K Antiquity Surfer bridge has a little extra juice but really doesn't sound overwound.

Actually that Surfer bridge might be another good option for you in a Duncan bridge.

Of the sets I've got, the Onamac Pinktone bridge is 12.6K and the D Allen Echoes bridge is 12.5K with a 7.6K tap.
The set I put together myself uses a Zhangbucker pure-handwound Paul Bunyan that's 10.2 with a 7K tap.
The Zhangbucker is especially wonderful: big and singing yet plenty sparkly - still 100% Strat.
It's paired with an old 70s SSL-1 (my first Duncan back in the day) neck and a Fralin Woodstock 69 bridge model in the middle.

I have a set of Texas Specials in a Fender Roadworn and I wouldn't say any of the four bridges mentioned above is a whole lot hotter.

Also have the Quarter Pound in two other guitars, but that's no longer very Stratlike - verging on P90 tone territory.
It totally rocks though, hot and fat. Still has some bite when you dig in, just doesn't give you much sparkle or chime.
