Not familiar with the Mod 5, but Line 6 Helix's Placatar Dirty is one of my go-to models. It is based on the HBE-100. and I rarely leave BE mode. It's ridiculously fun to play. Tends to feel a bit compressed, yet dynamic at the same time. Lots of sustain, but reacts to pick attack. Sort of straddles the high output modern sustain with the dynamics/squish of old VH.
Rockstah Mod 5 in youtube clips seems a lot like an old Mojave Ampworks amp. I've heard Splawns get similar sounds, though they tend to have a bit harsher high end when slammed with a ceramic pickup with a gritty presence. On the other hand, EVH is known to have used Super 70s [A8] for his non-whammy parts on most of the first album... Floyded bridge pickup he's claimed so many different things that nobody knows, probably not even him. List of suspects (and improbable claims, I lean towards him using a Custom, then denying it in upset over being name-dropped in a Seymour Duncan ad, he has a long history of turning on his endorsed companies) is long, and given how much post-production determined his sound, more worth worrying about what gets you closer, not what got him there.
Quick google shows a fair number of people claim Splawns are a lot punchier in feel, where Rockstah Mod 5 is squishier in feel, which is more natural for VH.
EVH is pretty easy to get in ballpark with any of the plexi-ish models with a bunch of fiddling with sag & bias, and maybe an optical compressor immediately after (and sometimes before) the IR/cab model. But mostly I tend to ignore that it's not dead-on and mess with the Placater Dirty [Friedman HBE-100], because it's so addictive, and can get both close to that sound, and a lot of other sounds.
Seems like both are great at only partially overlapping things. The Friedman does have a clean channel, which is handy if you like to have a true clean channel, rather than whatever you can get from your gain setting by lowering your guitar volume.
