Roller string bar

Does anyone make one of these but in a roller?
Kinda along the same lines as a roller string tree, but a bar instead...

I was looking at my Squier and I thought it would be a good idea.

I removed the D&G string retainer and that helped, but I feel that I could fine tune the string break angle better with a string bar, because unless I add shims under a regular string tree it seems like it puts too much angle on it. And actually I feel as though a shorter string bar that only covers the DGBE strings are really all that's necessary anyways.

I kept the B&E string tree on it, but Id love to get rid of that thing so thats what got me thinking..

What are you guys using on your Strats?

Re: Roller string bar

Replace the stock plastic nut with black Tusq XL. Then you wont need to fitz with it.

Re: Roller string bar

If you have the stock trapeziod tuners you can pop the backs off amd shim them for staggered heights. Put a tough of gun lube in the gears while you have the backs off and they work surprisingly well.

Re: Roller string bar

I actually have a brass nut on order, so that should work probably. As far as the tuners, they were sealed tuners, but I swapped them for an old set of Valley Arts tuners and that did help alot. I saw a few videos by a guy named Frudua on youtube and he was saying about shimming the tuners or winding the high strings from top down when winding them, which is kinda like staggering them.

The plastic nut kinda does suck. I tried pencil lead, 3in1 oil, chapstick... all of those seemed to work at first but they arent permanent and eventually stick again.

Appreciate the help

Re: Roller string bar

Try gun lube in th nut slots. It is basically machine oil and teflon. Pretty slick stuff indeed. Works wonders on sh*tty nuts.

I appreciate the advice on that, and Ill try some of that sometime. Since Im swapping to a brass nut, would it be a good idea to use gun lube on that? Id imagine it wouldnt hurt none.

I may swap to a non-fine tuner floyd because I havent had one of those in a while, but Im fairly certain most of my problems lie from the neck up, kinda like me.

This is the stuff you need. Just be careful - a little goes a LONG way!!! I have been using the same tube for years.

Before spending money on a Floyd, make sure your bridge is only rocking on the two outer screws and not sliding up and down. A lot of tuning problems with the old 6-screw tremolos come from binding at the screws and the bridge not returning to zero.

Re: Roller string bar

Nice! Thanks for the link!

This is the Squier Standard Strat with the 2pt trem, which isn't the greatest anyways, but so far so good...until its Floyd time at least.. But the posts are narrower, so IF I do go with a non-finetuner OFR, I'll have to fill and drill.
This really does play good and since I scalloped it, I like it even more, but I need to keep the mods in check because at some point it only makes sense to get another body and/or neck. But as of now its performing better than stock and its doing its job.
Its mainly a beater really but if you guys are like me, it only makes sense to make it play nice so its actually enjoyable to play it.

It goes without saying that if it wasn't an ok guitar, then I wouldn't waste my time obviously. I realize it is what it is though...

Thank you for the help and ideas, much appreciated man!
