Rolling Your Own

Amps, that is. Let's put together a list of any folks out there that are offering amp kits. I'll start it off.

Mission Amps (most noted for his 5E3 Tweed Deluxe, but now offering a line of 6L6-based Tweeds 30 watts? 2x10 Tweed Pro, 3x10 Tweed Bandmaster, and 1x15 Tweed Pro) Bruce's kits are well documented and his support is first rate.

Weber VST is offering a lot of kits these days. Their prices are really good, but they're just getting started. I've read from users that they are still working out the bugs on parts missing, etc. But all Ted's kits are offered with cabs and weber speakers.

All it really takes is a bit of patience and a few inexpensive tools. That and a healthy dose of common sense. But, wow, when you play one of your own creations, there's nothing quite like it.

Another one, hosts the AX84.com site, sells a P1 community designed 5 watt amp kit. Option for adding a socket and can switch it to 1 watt. Should be able to crank that one in the house.

yep, mattt, that's probably a good call on the gain issue. 18 watt Marshalls are about it in the gain department.

Would i be correct in saying that most/all of the kits available are for vintage type amps... with gain not going beyond a Plexi?

I'd like to get round to building a high gain type amp...

Torres sells the "Dual Marshall kits", which are 2 channel, have cleans between Plexi and AC-30, and can supposedly pull of much more modern tones

Can´t say for myself whether this is true, though ;)
