This guitar will now have a way cooler life than it's had so far lol

Making a Mick Ronson tribute out of a really nice Epi LP Custom. I scraped all the finish off and then sanded lightly to smooth out the top. I am thrilled with how it came out, it has a really nice top on it. Going to get a light oil finish.

I have to get some parts to finish it off so it'll be a week or so before it is done, then to find someone with a Ronno fixation or a Bowie tribute band to buy it :fingersx:

It'll be getting new pups and a proper re-wire in addition to being re-dressed to look like Ronno's

Well there's a shop that does make them off of Gibsons but I wanted to make affordable ones someone will actually use and have some fun with

Dyed the board ebony and hit the body with a coat of Danish oil, both came out pretty well.

Decided to use a pair of Epi 57CH pickups. 8.6-8.75k. Pulled the cover off one and spent the evening removing wax, who ever pots the pickups at Epi definitely takes their work seriously, anybody need a pound of wax?

As a bridge p'up, those are barely passable. As a neck p'up, those are simply unacceptable, if you ask me.

Get at least a second-hand '59n, and put an A3 in it and an A2 in the bridge. That'll make 'em usable, as a set. Don't get your hopes up about the bridge's tone, though. Those Epi p'ups are NOT good.

For Ronson tone, I'd get a second-hand Vintage Blues set aka '59 set, and put an A4 in the neck and an UOA5 in the bridge. That'll get you as close as you can be with the choices at hand and on a tight budget.

I'm a big Mick Ronson fan. Always loved his Bowie stuff and the Ian Hunter stuff especially the first Hunter solo album.
"The Truth,The Whole Truth,Nothin But The Truth" is a Ronson Tour De Force!!!
Was just reading about a Ronno doco thats been released recently called "Beside Bowie".
I'll have to track it down.

There is a live album of the Hunter Ronson Band that is worth checking out, the version of Sweet Dreams on it is stellar!

Very cool!! 3 questions.. What pups did you have made for it?? Second, how did you strip it? im guessing sander based on the pile of stuff in an early pick.. How did you strip without damaging the binding??
