Rosewood boards with black guitars

I just hate em... ok, I guess I only hate them on a Strat or Telecaster... I've been interested in picking up a floyd-strat and every one I find has a rosewood board. Wheres the love for the classic black strat with a maple board??:eyecrazy:

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I think a black Strat with a maple fretboard is a good look. Leo started out with maple, and if you believe the story, he changed to rosewood in the 60's because he saw a band on TV with maple boards that were old and dirty, and thought they looked terrible. Ever since I got into Malmsteen, I've preferred maple on Strats and Teles for both the looks and the sound.

As for other guitars, I don't like rosewood on a black guitar, especially if it's a mean-looking metal sort of guitar. For those, I think the appropriate wood is ebony -- or at least, rosewood dyed to look like ebony.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I've always loved the Black finish, mint guard, and rosewood board look. I don't care whether you like it or not. More for me!!!

;)

Different strokes for different folks man. Good luck on your guitar search though.

I feel the same way. And this is what I own!

I feel I need a Maple boarded neck and a new body for the rosewood neck.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I think the best way to inverse it would be to make a rosewood guitar w/ ebony fretboard.

Speaking of which, has anyone played a solid rosewood guitar? It's be worth quite a bit, also a bit heavy. I know George Harrison had a rosewood tele.

I was just checking one out on the bay - USA classic model, black maple board and Floyd...

If you're not locked into a Fender Stratocaster, check out a Charvel San Dimas or SoCal.

I will however admit that I´ve since dyed the last one black and it looks much better ;)

Now, with the inverse, El CHupacabra is proud to present
A rosewood telecaster w/ an ebony neck.

POint is I don't think they look that bad together.

I have a rosewood neck with an ebony board. It was pretty nice. Very comfortable to play and it sounded mellow yet defined.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

i don't care what it looks like, much less care what someone else thinks it looks like. it is more about feel and sound for me. i am anti-black guitar just because it always looks like if i touched it, it would be sticky.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

WOW... really guys??? Some of you need to be less concerned with how the guitar looks and concentrate more on how it sounds.

You can have the gnarliest guitar in the garage and it don't mean sheit unless you can make it sound good!

I think you don't realize how much aesthetics matter in guitar buying. While some people don't care, alot of us want something that looks cool (no wonder the LP and Strat did so well). This is just another aesthetic that some people don't like, and why they won't buy such a guitar.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I like a black Strat style guitar with a maple board! Here's my '92 G&L, Skyhawk:
