Rosewood boards with black guitars

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

My black on rosewood Schecter Blackjack PT is so sexy to me.

And so is my black on rosewood Alvarez.

But I do love the look of a black guitar with maple also.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

i like finished maple boards on black guitars, the rosewood boards dont really do it for me :/ maple on cream looks awesome also

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

The irony of this is that when I go to add a second guitar back in to the stable, it will most likely be a black strat with a rosewood or pau ferro board.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

For the most part, i don't care for the rosewood board on a black guitar.

I do like some of the strats I've seen that use a RW board on a black body with a tortoise guard--and either cream or black pickups and controls.

But otherwise, I think an ebony or maple board looks better.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I think ebony looks best (what's better than ALL black?) but rosewood doesn't really offend me. Especially if it's a nice dark piece. You can also stain it with oil dye if it's really cheesy looking.

Richard - those are two great looking guitars.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I think I hit a nerve here! Personal preference.

I think a maple board with a black Strat or Tele looks great. The rosewood turns me off (aethetically, black and brown are not complementary colors).

I don't mind rosewood on other black guitars, and I especially like black SG standards.

I like rosewood boards on Teles and Strat with a natural, white, cream or sunburst body. And although I've espoused the virtue of maple boards, I must confess that my Standard Strat has a rosewood board (antique cream body).

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I don't like rosewood period. I don't care what guitar it's on.

Re: Rosewood boards with black guitars

I think it depends on the guitar. I love black Les Pauls and SG's and those have rosewood fretboards. But on the other hand, black strats look better with maple fret boards, especially super strats with black hardware. Same goes for black telecasters.
