Rotosound strings...

Free high e, cheaper than D'addarios... I haven't tried them yet and I'm wondering how they compare, simply enough. Anyone use them?

Re: Rotosound strings...

I used to use them. From my experience, they sounded great brand new; they were rough of frets, bends were a little tougher than I was used to and they went dead really quick. I put up with them for a while because they sounded so good (new) but with all the other negatives, I gave up and went back to Ernie Ball. As always, YMMV.

Re: Rotosound strings...

I never have tried their guitar strings but I refuse to put anything else on a bass unless (for whatever reason) Im not using round wound strings...

Re: Rotosound strings...

rotosound flat wounds (bass) are my favorite flat wound string besides pyramid, but who has the money for that.

never tried their guitar strings but their bass round wounds are tough on the frets.

Re: Rotosound strings...

I recall they sounded awesome but lasted a bit too short 'alive'.

And I remember they weren't exactly cheaper than D'addarios!

Re: Rotosound strings...

I used to use them YEARS ago before I discovered Ernie Ball, Dean Markley etc. So far back I can't remember much about them. :smack:

I've just bought 5 packs of Rotosound 10-46 as I thought I ought to fly the flag and try them again. Haven't got around to using them yet though.

Re: Rotosound strings...

I have only used thier bass strings and those flat tore up my maple kneck!
But dang they sounded great!

Re: Rotosound strings...

I use them. I must have 12 spare 0.10s and 7 spare 0.09s now! I really like them. The sound a bit less twangy than the Fender Bullets I also use. Great value, but I have to echo everyone else on the longevity issue. I really make a point of looking after them by wiping the strings and using Fast Fret on them. Great considering I can get them for less than £4 from Strings Direct (.co.uk).

Re: Rotosound strings...

I only used one set of them in my life. They didn't strike me as all that amazing. I know that Rickenbacker had a disclaimer at one time in their warranties that you were NOT to put Rotosounds on their basses (4001s at the time), because the tension was higher and it would screw up the action.

Re: Rotosound strings...

I change my D'addarios every month and a half, or 2 months usually. Depending on string budget. I HATE how they feel and sound new, but damn after about a month... They feel right at home in my hands.
