Rotozip bit knackered?

I got my rotozip out today to make some practice cuts before I carve up my guitar to fit some new pickups.

When I start making the cut, I burn the wood and smoke goes everywhere. I'm not pushing hard, going no faster then a couple of millimetres (about 1/10 of an inch) a second. The wood I'm cutting for practice is a bit of laminated pine. When I pull the bit out, it's covered in black crud. I've tried brushing this off with a wire brush and carrying on, but it doesnt help.

Does this sound like a blunt bit? I'm using the general-purpose sabrecut bit.

Higher speed, sharper bit, less pressure still ;)

Yeah, must be the bit. I had it going full speed, and I basically let it sit still, and the lightest touch made it smoke. Maybe I'm just ham-fisted. I'm fairly close to just using a mallet and chisel (on the rotozip :laugh2: )
