RP and RW for hum-canceling?

Does a pickup have to be RW/RP to cancel hum when teamed with it's neighbor, or will a Reverse Polarity pup cancel noise when used with a non-reversed, with both pups wound in the same direction?

Re: RP and RW for hum-canceling?

One pickup has to be RW/RP relative to the pickup it is being combined with in order to have humcancelling. Lew

That's the classic "out of phase" tone when two pickups are combined and one is out of phase relative to the other. It'd sound thin and nasally with very little bass.
