Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

Hi, I have an Egnater Tweaker 15 head and Orange Tiny Terror Head - wanted to see if I could run one head into the other through an Orange PPC112 (16 ohms). Basically want to run both heads into one cab.

Output on TT is 16 ohms, Tweaker is selectable @ 4, 8, 16 ohms.

Should I run the Tweaker speaker out into the TT input, or how/can I do this? I also noticed the PPC12 has two unputs (the TT is currently going into the left input).

Thank you.

You need to pick up a amp switcher. A few different companies make them but they are not cheap.

Almost sounds like you want to slave the two amps together ("run one head into the other").

Do *not* run any speaker out into the input of anything. Speaker outs must go to an appropriate load; such as a speaker or dummy load.

What you could do is run the Egnater FX Loop "send" to the input of the OTT. This is a line level signal and is safe.

What you would have there is the Egnater's preamp combined with the entire OTT circuit. You would also have more gain/distortion if needed.

From pics on the web, looks like the OTT does not have an FX loop or line out, so nothing you can do there if you want the OTT first in the chain.

However... (read below)

===

If slaving, one amp needs to be loaded down with a dummy load (such as HotPlate set to "load") and there will need to be a line out tapped to run into the 2nd amp. This line out takes the speaker level signal and converts it to a line level signal which is safe for stompboxes, other amp inputs, etc...

Keep in mind when you combine two amps like this, both amps' circuitry will affect the tone; you may have to set the 2nd amps' eq to
something you normally wouldn't. For example, my 2nd amps eq is set mostly middle of the range for bass and treble.

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

Lll didn't mention it but he has a great youtube video demonstrating slaving amps with a dummy as he just explained. Very well done so you may want to look it up...

This is what the OP needs to run two hot heads into one cab.
Radial and others make them.
Others have said.....DO NOT run two heads into One Cab, or the Out of one head to the In of another.

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

Yeah, I'm not sure if the OP is talking about running heads in:

"parallel" (two amp heads sharing the same speaker cab; guitar signal alternates between heads - amp switcher needed for that)

or

"serial" (run one amp into the other; guitar signal runs through both heads concurrently - fx send / line out / slaving needed for that)

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

Nah, I'm pretty sure he's talkin about running teo heads in one cab in parallell(switching between both) but I thought I'd give him a heads up about your vid if he's curious about slaving that's all. It's definitely a well made vid and quite clear and thorough too so it deserved to be brouhjt up imho.

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

YOU are correct.
The title, kind of, implies wanting two head into one cab.
Then he does mention one head into the other.
Probably just exploring the options.........

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

You'll need a stereo cab, which would be for example, a 4x12 cab with the option of running the left side as a 2x12 and the right side as another 2x12. Then an A/B box to switch between which amp's inputs your guitar is being sent to.

BINGO!, but you could also just use a stereo cable and play both heads concurrently -one side of the 4x12 with one amp, and the other side of the 4x12 ( or even a 2x12 wired with two jacks)with the other amp.Inorite?
If you wanna get ill, then run a full stack (2x 4x12)with two heads atop the full stack, one amp head going to each separate 4x12, using a stereo cable.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought about one of my Marshall 1960 4x12 stereo cabs, but I still am not sure what the OP is looking for.

I wouldn't recommend stereo cables. Most cabs to my knowledge won't be compatible, and stereo cables would just be another type of cable you'd need to carry around.

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

He probably does not really mean "stereo", as much as he does dual-mono.
But it looks like the OP lost interest anyway....... ;)

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

I think the one you want is the Radial Engineering Tonebone pedal they call the Headbone. They make three different versions that let you switch two head into one cab.

They also make one called the Cab-bone for switching one amp between two cabs.

Looks like the Radial Headbone can run A or B, but not A+B together.

Re: Running 2 heads into 1 cab?

OP, what exactly are you attempting to do?

Run one amp into a second amp:

amp1
|
amp2
|
speaker cab

***or***

Allow both amps to use the same speaker cab:

amp1 or amp2
|
speaker cab

???
