Running a 3/4 stack

So I have the regular Marshall 1960 cab with the mono/stereo option, and I'd like to add my open back Avatar 2x12 to the mix. It has two 16ohm speakers wired to run at 8 ohms. How does I git er done?

Oh, Im running a DSL100 head. :scratchch

Re: Running a 3/4 stack

the math doesnt really add up no matter what you do. you can run the 4x12 at 16 and the 2x12 at 8 and be fine but im not sure how it will sound

Would rewiring the 2x12 to 16ohm change things? Running both cabs at 16.

Re: Running a 3/4 stack

I run a 16 ohm 4x12 with a 16 ohm 2x12 just fine, you need 8 ohm speakers for your 2x12 to do it though.

Re: Running a 3/4 stack

I just looked into it, you need to put some 8 ohmers in the 2x12, wire them series for 16, then run with your 4x12 in the parallel 8 ohm jacks on the amp.

Re: Running a 3/4 stack

The two 8 ohm parallel jacks are splitting the 16 ohm tap. This is exactly what those are for. Switching to 4 ohm parallel is for running two 8 ohm cabs.

Makes perfect sense, right?

Hmmmm looks like the DSL has some issues with the parallel jacks requiring a "grounding mod" :scratchch

Re: Running a 3/4 stack

Don't know anything about that, weird. I would think they should be fine, surely they made the amp with running a full stack in mind.
