Running a SLO into two greenbacks...is there really much risk?

I gigged last night with my SLO running into my lovely 212 with two old school Greenbacks in it...and I only had each gain up at half way as well as each master up at around half. How far would I have to push it to really risk blowing up the speakers or should I really NOT be doing that?

Very dangerous there son!

You can pop 2 greenbacks with a 50 watt (or even less) amp so running a 120+ watt amp (no matter how low you keep it turned down) could be an issue...

Your speakers will blow soon after your amp's signal exceeds 50W (the handling capacity of two Greenbacks.). Unless someone is sitting there with a meter measuring the output of your amp, no one can tell you when this will be.

YIKES! Well I seem to have avoided blowing them so far so I'll quit while I'm ahead, it's just that my other cab (which is a Marshall, a JCM900 if I'm correct) is loaded with four (yes it's a 412) G12H30 blackbacks and I wanted to use this, but compared to the greenback cab it sounded so shrill with the SLO so I just went for the greenbacks. But I just did a bit of tweaking of the EQ on the amp and took the presence COMPLETELY OUT and now it sounds good.

Think I'll still get a good cab made up for those speakers though, the Marshall one sucks :rocket:

I bet it sounded sweet, thats pushing the limits, The old vox amps used to blow up so much caus they were at the max power handeling all the time.

Yeah...you've gotten pretty lucky so far.

That 4x12 with H30's is good for 120 watts...you could blow that cab with an SLO if you're not careful!

That is a great speaker in its own right, but not quite like a Greenback, but it is in the same ballpark of tones

Man, I'd like to give it a try in my Engl Screamer but I couldn't find this speaker in Germany yet, only the 12-T75.

Well considering the SLO is rated at 100 or 120 watts, if I'm running a 120 watt cab and the most I ever would turn the amp up to would be half way, I should be safe.

God oh god running into those two greenbacks sounded so sweet though

Haha I've actually only got 3 greenbacks all up, but I was thinking about just getting another 212 with either two G12H30 Blackbacks or one of each, then running it together with the other 212.

More cabs to cart around though and I don't know if I'd have room.

It is true YA, the more cabs the more you will need to lug around.

Even though they aren't exactly Greenbacks, you may want to look into the testing of the Celestion G12-65, Eminence GB128 or Eminence Private Jack.

They won't be exactly Greenbacks, but you may find something else you like in them.
