Running two delays????

Anyone run two delays? Delay is my most used effect and I hate reverb so I ended up buying two MXR Carbon Copies and running one with a very short delay and one with a longer delay and use one or the other depending on application. Is this odd, or is this common on other guitarist's pedalboards?

Getting your Edge on, eh?

Nothing odd if that's the kind of reverb you dig.

Re: Running two delays????

I have 3 delays on my board right now... Similar to what your setup is, one short, one long, and the third has a modulated delay that provides a perfect chorus effect.

Re: Running two delays????

I run two delays and one of those has an addtional preset so functionally it is three delays.

Re: Running two delays????

I run 3 on my board currently. El Capistan, Memory Man, DL4(which has 3 presets) so technically 5. Or 6 when I add the favorite switch to the Strymon.

One preset set to swell which I use with some heavily modulated reverb for nice ambient textures, another I use for leads/solos, and another saved to a dotted eight with modulation. Not a big fan of the delays on the DL4 to be honest. Compared to the others I have, and have tried it sounds pretty bad. But it does the job... and ill always keep it for the looper alone.

The Memory Man I use with slight chorus modulation for swell trails, and clean chords ala Eric Johnson.

El Cap Is new, but I have it set to a longer delay with heavy tape warble

Re: Running two delays????

I run 2...an DE-7 on the echo setting...set for that old 1950s slapback for country stuff and a Delta Labs set for a longer delay with several light repeats for 80's rock solos.

Re: Running two delays????

My plan is to run two - a Memory Lane Jr and a TC Alter Ego, both of which I'll be getting this month. The ML Jr has a tap tempo switch that can also be configured to turn on and off the modulation, so I can use it as just a straight delay and a modulated delay with the tap of a switch. I'll have the Alter ego for whatever I'm not doing with the ML Jr.

Re: Running two delays????

I have tried tons of boutique delays and still prefer my MXR Carbon Copy. The cost of the mosre expensive ones like the Analogman to my ears are not worth it.

Re: Running two delays????

I was running a Roctron Short-Timer and a Line 6 Echo Park for longer delays; I took the EP off, as it seemed like I was hardly ever using it.

the shadows did, so why shouldn't you?
i like to combine my twins reverb with the shorttimer myself

Re: Running two delays????

Well, I hate reverb so I don't need that....but I am finding I only need one delay. Thanks for all the imput though. I only use delay for ambience on some cleans and some solos. Outside of that I never use delay and still can't stand reverb. LOL I like reverb in the studio, not live. I find reverb a studio effect.

I am thinking of using one delay pedal and leaving it set for ambiance for cleans and leads....I really don't get into timing my delays ... just use it for thickening my leads and adding ambiance for cleans. Maybe I should use two delays and keep the one I use for cleans set for a lower mix for a reverb type thing and have the other delay for longer delays and a heavier mix for leads.

Oh, decisions!

Don't feel bad. I use a roland rackmount delay but only for a chorus sound lol.

Re: Running two delays????

Had rehearsal last night an one delay will he fine. I use it for ambience. Only issue is the Carbon Copy is a little dark. I am going to try the Analogman ARDX next or another analog delay that may not be as dark.

Re: Running two delays????

Rather than get the expensive Analogman Dual Delay, I decided to keep my MXR Carbon Copy and buy a used Jacques Prisoner delay. I am also considering using a digital delay so that I will have the option of an analog delay or digital delay.
