The Antiquity covers start out as un-plated nickel, which is then treated with our aging process. Being un-plated, the material is highly susceptible to environmental effects, and I would definitely expect it to change and continue to patina with time and use. Cleaning and/or polishing will temporarily restore it to a cleaner condition but it's not going to 'solve' the issue permanently. As others have suggested, replacing the cover with plated nickel covers will greatly reduce the tendency for rust/patina.
